island, castle ruins, archaeological site
An islet in the Glomma river. The location of the overgrown site of the ruined medieval castle of Valdisholm, erected by King Håkon IV Håkonsson in the early 13th century. The castle was held by his lieutenant Arnbjørn Jonsson from 1225 until his death in 1240, when it passed to Duke Skule. Under King Magnus VI Lagabøter, the fortress is attested as a prison in 1273. It is last mentioned in 1346. Archaeological remains indicate a violent destruction. By 1575, it was already in ruined condition.
