The Daily NK has confirmed that Kim, a Public Distribution System (PDS) worker convicted of the murder of a National Security Agency agent in March of this year, has been executed alongside his younger brother.
According to a source from inside North Hamkyung Province, Kim and his brother, with whom he hid the corpse of the murdered NSA agent, were publicly executed in Hoiryeong City Public Stadium at 10AM on the morning of the 14th.
According to The Daily NK’s information, on March 26th in a house in the Manghyang area of Hoiryeong, Choi, an agent with the NSA’s No. 27 Radio Frequency Monitoring Unit, discovered Kim talking to one of his brothers in China. Kim apparently begged Choi to show leniency, but Choi refused so Kim murdered him with a hatchet where he sat.
Thereafter, Kim and his younger brother placed the body in a sewer and went on the run for four days before eventually being arrested.
On the morning of the executions, the source said People’s Unit chairpersons could be found encouraging citizens to attend, and added, “The order to execute Kim’s brother was signed by the General (Kim Jong Il) on April 3rd.”
Kim’s mother, wife and 3-year old child have all been sent to the No. 22 Hoiryeong Political Prison Camp following the case, according to the source.
“When there is a crackdown on such things, it is harder to get out of trouble using bribes,” the source explained. “Is it not because the authorities tried to deal with this phone problem so strictly that this killing happened?”
“Last year, the Party started referring to Hoiryeong as “(Kim Jong Il’s) Mother’s Hometown” and allowing it special treatment in terms of food distribution, but the atmosphere changed completely this spring,” the source went on. “Since this harsh treatment of secret phone calls started happening, dark clouds are shrouding the people’s faces.”
