Port Macquarie is the new home to the Australian Ironman after spending 20 years in Forster a little further south. The Ironman is one of the world's toughest endurance races comprising a 3.8km swim / 180km bike ride / 42.2km (full marathon) run leg. April 2006 was Port Macquarie's inaugural running of the event. A Half Ironman qualifying race (half the distance) is also held in October each year.
