Santo Antônio Hydroelectric Power Plant
Location: Madeira River, near Porto Velho, Rondônia.
Installed Capacity: Approximately 3,568 MW.
Type: Run-of-river power plant, with low reservoir formation.
Objective: Primarily to meet the growing energy demand of the country, especially the Southeast and Midwest regions.

High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Transmission System – Porto Velho → Araraquara II
This system is known as the ±600 kV bipole HVDC Porto Velho – Araraquara II line and represents one of the main high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission lines in Brazil.
Technical Characteristics:
Technology: HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current).
Voltage: ±600 kV (positive and negative with respect to ground).
Length: Approximately 3,450 km.
Transmission Capacity: Around 3,150 MW per bipole.
Project: Part of the Madeira system, responsible for transmitting energy from the Santo Antônio and Jirau power plants.
Start of operation: Initial tests and commercial operation began around 2013 to 2014.

Converter Substations
Porto Velho Substation (RO): Converts the generated energy from alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC), allowing for long-distance transmission with lower losses.
Araraquara II Substation (SP): Performs the reverse process — converts energy from DC to AC, integrating it into the National Interconnected System (SIN).
