The station was located between Palupera and Puka railway stations (kilometre 470.85)[2], 39.5 km from Valga. The last passenger train stopped at Aakre railway station in 2008, before the Tartu–Valga railway was repaired, during which passenger train traffic was closed.[3] After the restoration of train traffic (2010), passenger trains no longer stopped at Aakre station by decision of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications.
