Since its establishment in 1977, the Paradise Rock Club has become one of the most important and well-known concert venues in Boston. Over the last 30 years, the Paradise has hosted some of the most recognizable names in rock n' roll during their ascent to fame- the Police, Billy Joel, U2, Elvis Costello, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and AC/DC, to name a few. The Paradise has a reputation for booking hot, up and coming bands from both the US and from abroad. More recent bands that have played the Paradise include Kings of Leon, Bloc Party, Citizen Cope, the Stereophonics, and many more. They aim to book bands that cater mainly to the indie/alternative music scene in Boston, but hip-hop, dance, and electronic artists are becoming a much more common fixture on the Paradise's schedule.
The venue itself at the Paradise is an extremely intimate one. With a maximum capacity of 650, it provides a relatively personal viewing experience, but is still large enough that it attracts a lot of talented artists. The venue is laid out such that the stage is at the front of the room with a large open floor in front of the stage for standing viewing. Two bars are located directly behind the floor. On the floor no person is more than thirty feet, give or take, from the stage. On the three sides of the room that surround the stage there are balconies that offer some seating and less crowded areas to stand and watch from. Overall, it is one of the more enjoyable places in boston to view a concert.
Attached to the Paradise Rock Club is the Paradise Lounge that opened in the last few years. The lounge offers a place to get food and drinks both before and after shows- the kitchen is open until 1am. The lounge also hosts small local musicians and DJ's, as well as other events such as art showings and literature readings. Admission is free after shows with a ticket from the Rock Club.
Tickets usually range in price from $15-$35. Food is also inexpensive at the Lounge. Admission to all Rock Club shows is 18+. The Lounge is open from 5pm-1am daily and the box office is open from 12pm-6pm Monday through Satuday. The Paradise website is www.thedise.com/.
