Rekem is a submunicipality of Lanaken in the province of Limburg in Belgium. It is located near the river Maas, which forms the border with the Netherlands here, and approximately 10 km north of Maastricht. Rekem was an independent municipality until the municipal reorganization of 1977.
Rekem was first mentioned in 1140 as Radekeim, and in 1143 as Radenchen. It is probably a contraction of the Germanic personal name Rado and ing or heim (place of residence).
