courthouse, historic landmark
The building opened in 1886 as the original Bradford Matthew Chanoler Durfee High School, Fall River's high school. It is one of Fall River's most prominent landmarks, with its site on top of the hill (hence Durfee's athletics teams being named "Hilltoppers"), observatory and bell tower overlooking the Taunton River. The building was unoccupied for several years following the school's move to Elsbree Street, but has since been reopened as a trial court for Fall River.
