Art deco buildings of Thomas Jefferson High School (Los Angeles, California)

USA / California / Vernon / Los Angeles, California / East 41st Street, 1319
Streamline Moderne (architecture), interesting place, Art Deco (architecture), 1936_construction

Built as a replacement for an earlier Colonial Revival style high school campus in 1936. This exquisite Streamline Moderne school was designed by the noted architectural firm of Morgan, Walls, and Clements (Architect Stiles O. Clements). Notable features include the horizontal banding, rounded corners, and distinctive “Broadway Script” lettering.
The Streamline Moderne is here mixed with the P.W.P. Moderne in a monumental concrete structure; pronounced horizontal banding, curved concave and convex surfaces spiral around the building and are terminated by vertically articulated piers.
