Vroenhoven is a village and submunicipality of the municipality of Riemst in the southeast of the Belgian province of Limburg, it was an independent municipality until the municipal reorganization of 1977. The village, formerly called Montenaken, is located on the Belgian-Dutch national border near Maastricht and has 1518 inhabitants, a significant number of whom have Dutch nationality.
The name Vroenhoven is derived from the county of Vroenhof, about which relatively little is known. Part of the county was located within the city walls of Maastricht and extended from there to the west (Wolder, Montenaken, Heukelom).
