Heliópolis is a neighborhood in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. The area is considered the largest favela of the city. In the 1990s the government recognized its residents were not squatters but residents, officially sanctioning the favela as a neighborhood. To date, it has the appearance of a favela, regardless of government recognition.
