Brazil / Sao Paulo / São Paulo
downtown / central business district, region, invisible

The Extended Center of the city of São Paulo is an area of the city located around the historical center, and delimited by the avenues around the Tietê and Pinheiros rivers, and the Salim Farah Maluf, Alfonso d' Escragnolle Taunay, Dos Bandeirantes, Das Juntas Provisórias, President Tancredo Neves, Luis Inácio de Anhaia Melo avenues and the Maria Maluf road complex.

This region of the city concentrates most of the services, cultural jobs and leisure equipments of the city, as well as the higher income population. Inside this area, since 1997 there's a municipal restriction to the circulation of automobiles based on the final number on the license plates. Popularly known as "rodízio", this formal restriction receives the name of Rush Hour Operation.

Since 2007, the street signs of this region are identified by one horizontal stripe in the gray color.

Comments

  • The english version contains some remakable mistakes; one example of such mistake is the translation "delinquents of river Tietê" for the portuguese words "marginais do Tietê": the portuguese word "marginal" may be translated as "delinquent" in other situations but in this case "riverside" would be the a better translation.
  • Another bad translation: instead of "Operation Hourly of Peak" a better expression would be "Rush Hour Operation".
  • In the last sentence, the words "horizontal lane" should be replaced by "horizontal stripe". Lane, which means a track or path, does not apply in this context.
