Seven km west of Al Ashmunein beyond Bahr Yussef, Tuna al Gebel, the necropolis of Hermupolis, stretches along the slope of the Western Desert plateau. At the rocks of the cliff you find two reliefs of Echnaton, which describe the area of the reign of law of his Metropolis of Achetaton. The necropolis was used till the 5th century BC and in the wide catacombe system, many mummies of Iibises and Baboons as well as Arameic papyruses were found (Dareios-period). The most important tomb of the necropolis is the one of Petosiris, a noble of Hermupolis and High Priest at the temple of Thot 300 BC. It is well preserved and decorated with beautiful reliefs. Interesting is also an ancient Sakiya (draw well) which reaches 35 meters in depth and the mecanism is well peserved. It can be visited, even down till 15 meters to the medium level of the water wheel mechanism english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/9/40/324859/Heritage/A... www.channelnewsasia.com/news/world/thousands-year-old-e... english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/9/40/362609/Heritage/A...
