The building opened in 1935 as the Tulare County Courthouse Annex, at the center of Visalia’s early 20th century downtown scene. Despite an earthquake leveling the courthouse in 1952, the surviving annex was repurposed to serve as the Tulare County Social Services building. It was restored as the Darling Hotel in 2020.
