Lelle station was built together with the Tallinn–Viljandi railway line in 1900. It was originally located on the lands of Lelle Manor in Vändra Parish. In 1918, Lelle became a junction station in connection with the construction of a timber railway to Eidapere. By 1928, the Eidapere railway was extended to Pärnu. At the beginning of the 20th century, the station had three lines and a dead-end parking lot. By 1971, the existing narrow-gauge railway at Lelle station was converted to a broad-gauge railway. Over time, the condition of the Lelle–Pärnu railway has become increasingly worse. In 2017, the Estonian government decided not to invest 17,000,000 euros in repairing the 70 km long Pärnu–Lelle section of the railway. Regular train traffic between Pärnu and Lelle was discontinued on 8 December 2018. Lelle station remained in use only for passenger trains in the direction of Türi, Viljandi and Tallinn.
