Cockerillplaats (Genk)

Belgium / Limburg / Genk / Cokerillplaats
square, listed building / architectural heritage, green area, 1920s construction

Public square with beautiful layout, as an entrance to a mining cité realized from 1920-1922.

The oval square, opened on the Torenlaan opposite the school, is the church and the 'gateway' of a mining town with larger plots. The Macartstraat and the Adolf Greinerstraat end there. The oval is laid in grass, underlined with circular bands of hedge privet (Ligustrum ovalifolium) and a ring of white horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum). On the house side, a second ring of white horse chestnuts (125-160 cm girth at 150 cm height) corresponds to this.
