There were 2 ponds, one of them was filled up and the present institution building(Don Bosco) was built during 1963-'64 upon the plot created so. Father Henry Tora used to be the principal of the institution who was extremely popular amongst the children of the locality, as he had provided amenities like the huge playground for them to be used for their games and sports. In early '70-s, during Naxal agitation, there were scare of Naxal attack upon the institute (as was commonly believed by local people), hence, Father Tora and his accomplices left the place. Lateron, it was taken up by W.B. GOVT and was renamed as North Calcutta Polytechnic. I used to be a resident of the area from 1960 till 1996.

I belong to the very first L.M.E. group that went through the polytechnic. 1963-1966. Fathers Tora & Doro were the first Salesian Priests to teach there. They were refered to as 'BABA' which means father in Bengali. The teaching was excellent and many students achieved good results. I have fond memories of this instituition and still cherish all my photographs and magazines published in those early years. I am now retired and living in Melbourne Australia.
