The construction site for the station complex of the Troitskaya and Biryulyovskaya lines, transport hub, turnaround tracks, and access tunnels for the Troitskaya Line on part of the former Likhachev Plant industrial zone was fenced off in September 2021. In October 2021, the site was expanded to include Lisitsky Street, under which the station and turnaround tracks for the Troitskaya Line were planned.
During the operation of the Likhachev Plant, the site housed tracks for the "Zavodskaya" freight station, an electric vehicle repair shop, an unfinished workshop, and Compressor Station No. 2 (demolished in June 2022). The site of the Biryulyovskaya Line station previously held Foundry No. 2, demolished between 2014 and 2015.
From 2021 to 2022, tunnels and turnaround tracks for the Troitskaya Line were constructed using the open-cut method. Construction of the station complex was delayed due to the unopened southern concourse of the MCC ZIL station, which interfered with the work. It was eventually decided to proceed without demolishing the concourse.
In July 2022, diaphragm wall construction for the Troitskaya Line station began, followed by foundation pit excavation.
August 30, 2022: Tunneling for the right track to Krymskaya station began.
September 23, 2022: Tunneling for the left track to Krymskaya station began.
March 21, 2024: Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin approved the station name "ZIL."
