'Pickfair' was an estate and residence named as an amalgamation of its original residents' names, silent film actors Mary Pickford & Douglas Fairbanks. It was one of the first constructed in Beverly Hills, a new master-planned real estate development and city. 'Pickfair' initiated others to relocate here on ranch land "so far west of town", because the top 'Hollywood royalty - celebrity couple' of the era had. The property's existing hunting lodge was significantly redesigned by renowned Southern California architect Wallace Neff and interior designer Elsie de Wolf in 1919 and after.

While saying she was planning renovations of the legendary landmark, Pia Zadora instead leveled Pickfair in 1989 to build another house of her 'design', much to the dismay of local and international preservationists. The loss to cinema, cultural, and design history was significant - and remembered by many.
