Formerly known as East Harbor, Pilgrim Lake was created when a railroad dike seperated the harbor from Cape Cod Bay. The Lake slowly transitioned into a freshwater lake. The National Park Service has re-opened the lake to the bay to allow for the return of the saltwater marsh. The Park Service is also campaigning to use the former name, East Harbor.
