Former interchange point between the two-track LVRR mainline between Buffalo and New York City, the Northbound Rochester Branch and the Southbound Hemlock Lake Branch. At one time a busy passenger transfer point between mainline services like the "Maple Leaf" and "Black Diamond" to local services operated by gas-electric railcars known as "Doodlebugs", the junction remained active through the 1950s when passenger services were discontinued. LVRR ran regular freight service through on the mainline until 1977, The Hemlock portion was idled in the early 1960s while the Rochester branch continued into the Conrail era before eventually being closed in 1978, ending use of the junction.
