railway bridge, historical layer / disappeared object, viaduct (bridge construction style)
Built of timber in 1875 by the Utica, Ithaca & Elmira Railroad, the bridge carried a single track over 85ft for 1600ft over Six Mile Creek. Used by all subsequent railroads up to the Lehigh Valley, the original timber viaduct was rebuilt by the LVRR out of steel in the early 1900s and saw regular traffic until LVRR abandoned the trackage between Spencer and East Ithaca in 1935. Shortly thereafter the viaduct was taken down for scrap.
