Part of the larger Chazy Fossil Reef formation, a National Natural Landmark. The area is acknowledged by scientists as the oldest known fossilized coral reef complex in the world. Other parts of the reef can be seen southwest of here at Fisk Quarry.

Goodsell Ridge offers trails where visitors can see some of the exposed fossils.
