The stunning environs of Turvey Nature Reserve is situated just over 15 kilometres from Dublin city centre, near Donabate Village in Fingal, North County Dublin. This enclosed park, which boasts some of the most beautiful natural wildlife that the county has to offer, contains parkland, farmland, woodland and wetland areas, and opens out onto the breathtaking Rogerstown Estuary on one side. It features a wide array of different kinds of wildlife and is especially well endowed with huge amounts of birdlife, particularly near the estuary itself.

Goldfinches, Chaffinches, Linnets, Yellowhammers, Reed Bunting and Stonechats can all be seen regularly, as well as many types of birds of prey, including Buzzards, Red Kites, Kestrels, Sparrow Hawks, Peregrines and Hen Harriers. You will also find a huge variety of shore birds down by the estuary, particularly in winter. There is an active bird hide overlooking the estuary, which opens at the weekend, where you will usually find members of Birdwatch Ireland, who are always happy to chat about the local birdlife.

This really is one of Dublin's hidden natural gems, and is well worth a visit on any trip to Ireland's capital!
