Timbedra City was established by French colonial power in the early 20th century, the area of what is now known as Timbedra county was a field for many empires throughout the history, from Ghana empire, Almoravid Empire,Emirate Oulad Mbark and Emirate Mashdhoof which lasted even during the French colony as a result of a treaty signed between France and Emirate Mashdhoof which gave the Emir (King) administrative power under the French Governor who lived in the capital city(Timbedra). After the independence of Mauritania, Timbedra lost its position as the capital of Hodh region which split into two states; Hodh eshargy, its capital becomes Nema, and Hogh el-Garby, its capital Aiuon, and Timbedra becomes part of Hodh eShargy State Which is divided into six counties; Timbedra County, Nema County, Amourj County, Wallata County , Basiknou County and Jiguenni County. But Timbedra still the capital of folklore, folk music, folk poem for the whole Hodh region. People who have fallen in love in the city , either its former citizens or visitors, travel to it to spend lovely unforgotten, amazing vacation, listining to local musicians and drinking camel milk. It is just amazing city, believe me, I cannot describe it, once you visit it you will keep visiting it over and over again. (the magic of Timbedra)
