The site of the ancient sanctuary associated with the site of Palaiokastro / Ayia Irini, excavated by Swedish archaeologists in 1929-1931. The sanctuary is located just southwest of the church of the village of Ayia Irini (now Akdeniz in Turkish), and is believed to have been in use from the 11th until the 6th century BC. Some of the excavated remains are protected from the elements with modern roofing structures.
