The name ANTELIAS is originally Greek, "Ante Helios", meaning "Facing the Sun". Antelias is 6 Km North East of Beyrouth and has a large Marina and beach front on the blue Mediterranean coast and a famous town-square called Sahat-Antelias . A large percentage of Antelias's population is Armenian, and it is home to the magnificent Armenian Cathedral of St Gregory The Illuminator [ Սուրբ Գրիգոր Լուսավորիչ Տաճար in Armenian ] and the Armenian Catholicossate of the Great House of Cilicia, all in one large compound by the Jounieh-Beyrout coastline highway. Antelias has a fresh-water creek flowing through it called Faouar Antelias which spills into the Mediterranean Sea. It is the main conduit point from its town-square to the Metn-el-Shemali ( North Metn ) mountain road which goes through Rabieh, Bikfaya, Shoueir, Bologna, Mrouj to Zaarour and to Sanneen mountain.
