Hwireung is the tomb with a single mound of Queen Jangnyeolwanghu (1624-1688) from the Jo family, the 2nd queen of the 16th Joseon King, Injo,

She had lived as the senior member of the royal family during the reigns of four kings including Injo, Hyojong, Hyeonjong and Sukjong. Queen Jangnyeolwanghu did not produce any heirs.

Queen Jangnyeolwanghu’s time in the court was marked by conflict. Acute political controversies erupted in the Joseon government between the Seoin Party and the Namin Party over how long she should wear mourning attire following the deaths of King Hyojong and Queen Inseonwanghu. This is known as the “First and Second Yesongnonjaeng Disputes.”

Hwireung is Dalleung, the grave mound of the queen alone, that has low walls at the back of the tomb with slight height differences matching the natural contour. The stone statues of civil and military officials are similar to those of Sungneung constructed in 1684, And the 'T‘-shaped, five-bay ceremonial pavilion is a unique structure with two side wings attached with half bays,
