Once a notorious slum, this area houses the lower middle class of the city who have seen conditions of living drastically improved during the past 5 years. It now hosts various small industry units and cottage industries.

It also demonstrates the true multicultural face of Karachi, host to populations of migrants from Punjab province centered in the middle of the area, while the northern outskirts of the area is dominated by the Indian Migrated Karachiites, and the western part has the scores of Pashtuns from NWFP province.

Most of the young generation are college graduates, while some are settled in European and Arab countries for as long as 30 years, working as blue-collar workers mostly.
