Wuyan, famous for its Sulfur Springs, Saffron fields and Shaan traders.
"People from allover the world come to bathe in the Sulfur springs a.k.a. Khashir Pukher in Wuyan, to help themselves treat their skin rashes, fungal infections, other skin problems and to maintain healthy skin.
(Sulphur is used in fungicides and skin care soaps)
Saffron cultivation is a major activity in Wuyan.
Due to presence of abundant limestone from quarries and water resources from springs & streams, cement manufacturing plants have come up in the outskirts of Wuyan and in nearby towns.
Wuyan is surrounded by apple orchards, rice, vegetable and saffron fields. Other areas nearby include Munpora and Androosa known for its cattle and dairy farming and manufacturing of excellent quality woolen carpets. Pottery and basket-weaving (incl. kangri) are other skilled trades practiced.
Wuyan is an excellent place to escape into the real Kashmiri countryside with its close cultural relationship with nature, by spending a few days living with a local family.
