In 1989-1991, joint ceremonies were held in Babyn Yar to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust. On October 5, 1991, the Menorah, a monument to the executed Jews, was unveiled. The official ceremony was attended by the President of Ukraine, hundreds of foreign guests, numerous members of the public, activists of the Jewish and Ukrainian movements, and many ordinary citizens.
