The Lupu Bridge in Shanghai, China is the world's longest arch bridge. The US$302,000,000, 3,900-metre bridge was opened on June 28, 2003. Its main span of 550 metres oner the Huangpu River is 32 metres longer than the previous record holder, the New River Gorge Bridge in Fayetteville, West Virginia, United States.
The name of the bridge, Lupu, is an abbreviation of the two districts of Shanghai which it links - Luwan District on the north bank, and Pudong district on the south bank.
The top of the bridge's west tower is open for visitors, with access from ground level by elevator then along and up the north west arch.
