It connects Küssnacht (SZ) and Immensee and was originally part of the Zurich-Zug-Immensee-Küssnacht-Flüelen-Gotthard section. According to Sarnen's White Paper, Tell would have killed the Habsburg bailiff Gessler with an arrow here. To commemorate the event, according to Aegidius Tschudi (ca. 1530) a chapel was built, completely rebuilt in 1638. Road improvements carried out in 1822-23 and 1882 (extension to facilitate access to Immensee station following the opening of the Gotthard line) strongly changed the appearance of the place. A collection of school children (1934) led to the establishment of the Sviz Foundation. for the conservation of the Hohle Gasse. The subsequent construction of a parallel path (1937) preserved the restored Hohle Gasse from motorized traffic.
