This complex includes all of the oldest buildings on campus and some of the most elaborate floor plans. Most of it was originally built in the 30's as a mandate from the government intended to stimulate the economy provided substantial funding for county and city public works expansion programs. The aim at the time was to make rancho into a real hospital capable of long term care for the most acute patients. The buildings included in the complex are the bathhouse, the auditorium, the IRC, Bonita hall, the cafeteria, the pathology building including the morgue, and the entire block of ward buildings (30-70). these buildings were once the home of the largest collection of hyperbaric chambers for the treatment of acute cases of polio and tuberculosis In the entire world.
