Morningside Heights Park was established in 1938, when the City purchased a piece of land from the adjacent Morningside Cemetery.Shortly after the City of Syracuse bought Morningside, it spent some $85,000 to construct a massive winter sports complex on the property. By 1939, the new Morningside Park boasted a toboggan slide, skiing and coasting hill and skating pond (in the south portion of the park), all lighted for night use.

The toboggan slide was shut down however, and now the park is completely overgrown. There are three large water tanks still in use at the top of this park.
The park is also home to the Morningside Community Garden. The garden has just about 60 plots that local residents use to grow flowers and vegtables. The Garden is open to anyone.
This has become a very common area for local highschool teens to have "field parties" and spray paint their class names on the towers(e.g. Horizon)
