A cold war USAF radar station of varying level of importance, the site was handed over to the FAA in 1994 and later converted to a weather radar facility as air traffic radar infrastructure was continually consolidated.

Station was built as one of the first unmanned gap filler station and later gained status as other nearby stations were closed.
