The first mass execution was carried out here on 14 December 1939, and the last one on 17 July 1941. The biggest execution took place on 20 and 21 June 1940 as a part of the "AB Action": more than 360 people were executed. During executions the Germans were using increased safety measures. The mass graves were camouflaged, for example, by planting new trees. Despite the safety measures, the place of each execution was secretly noted by the local people. After the war, the locals pointed out 24 places where the exhumations, conducted by the crew of the Polish Red Cross, took place. By 2 June 1946, over 1700 human bodies were exhumated, among them 170 female bodies. Only 400 bodies were identified.
