chapel, ruins, Medieval / Middle Ages
The ruined chapel of Saint Drostan is located amid a graveyard southeast of Dunachton Lodge. The chapel is attested in 1381, when it was said to be a chapel of Nechtan dedicated to Saint Drostan in Dunachton. On this basis and because of the recent placement of the Pictish kingdom of Fortriu farther north than previously believed, Dunachton has been suggested as the site of the Battle of Nechtansmere/Dun Nechtain in 685.
