  • Nando Parrado is his name. It's named after his father.
  • The Roberto comes from the name of his companion, Roberto Canessa. The two of them hiked through the mountains from the crash scene to Los Maitenes (about 60 mi) to get help.
  • good job for documentation
  • Despite the claims, it's about 30 miles. Measure it yourself.
  • They're about 20 miles only. Just drag the map to your bottom left, undernet the scale.
  • This area delineated by someone else is not a mountain at all. It is a tributary valley. Please see the other locations to see where the true "Mt. Seler", aka "Nando's Peak" (15,300 ft.) may be located.
  • what a story, poor nando to climb such a high mountain only with humanflesh in his bag.
  • This is the second time I read this story,No people have suffered more than this group, and to still be sane is a miracle
  • Why is it so that the credit gets to only person...like in this case, only nando got the credit, though roberto's contribution was equal.
  • Even Robert would tell you...Nando was the one. Roberto may not have had the will to continue, but for Nando.
  • I anybody happens to be wondering why Parrado got all the credit, it is because he was the very first to reach the top. Canessa was waiting in an alcove below with their bags and Vizintin lagged behind, running out of energy. After Parrado made it to the top, he called down to Vizintin to fetch Canessa, and they came to the summit shortly after. The mountain was named by Parrado by using some lipstick and a plastic bag. He used the lipstick to write Seler on the bag, which he then tucked under a rock.
  • Don't forget Vizintin
