In response, the KRA commenced construction of a new racecourse in Korea's second largest city, Busan, in August 2001 and opened in September 2005. The racecourse was equipped with 2,000 meter sand track, a grandstand accommodating 32,000 racing fans and stables accommodating about 1,000 horses. From 2006, there are 12 races on every Friday. Also, all the races of Busan racecourse are being simulcasted with Seoul Racecourse and all the off-course betting centers.
