church, archaeological site, Medieval / Middle Ages
The old parish church of Baslick was founded by Saint Patrick for the Ciarraige; it served as the seat of abbots and bishops. In 649 a king of Connaught was buried here. It was plundered by the Vikings in 846 and declined in importance. The ruins of the medieval church stand amid an oval graveyard, where a headstone is dated to 1777.
