Formerly a fountain, Ildar Khanov's Meteorite was erected in front of the Tatarstan Hotel in 1981. In summer 2013, the sculpture moved behind the hotel and was installed near the Central Municipal Library. As the piping inside wore out, the structure now stands on the lawn in front of the library and does not function as a fountain. Notably, the sculpture was moved a few months after the author’s death. The square in front of the hotel is no more a square as it was subject to infill construction that ruined the former architectural composition.
