This distillery produces Cruzan (pronounced "kru-shun") Rum, which is getting more and more popular since the company was taken over by a stateside multi-brand liquor distributor. Previously it was family owned and operated by the Nelthropp family for generations, extending back to the time that the Virgin Islands was owned by Denmark and perhaps even earlier. It was then, and still is now, a local favorite. The secret, however, is out. Since the island does not harvest sugar cane any longer the molasses is shiped in from abroad.
