Lenox Square, owned by the Simon Property Group, is a super regional shopping mall located in the Buckhead neighbourhood of Atlanta, Georgia. It has a total retail floor area of 1,545,000 sq ft (143,500 sq m), with 250 stores.
Lenox Square was developed by Ed Noble and constructed from July 1957 to August 1959. Originally operating as an open-air shopping centre, it was the first major shopping mall in Georgia. With 52 stores, its initial floor area was 800,000 sq ft (74,000 sq m). A movie theatre was added in 1963. The mall became enclosed in 1972. An expansion in 1980 involved adding a three-level section to the back, which included a food court, and it encompassed 1,040,000 sq ft (96,600 sq m). In 1995, a second floor was added above the original level, expanding the area to 1,457,000 sq ft (140,000 sq m), with 200 stores. The most recent expansion in 2007 added a 36,000 sq ft (3,300 sq m) upper level to the wing connecting the Neiman Marcus store to the main mallway.
Currently, Lenox Square has three anchor tenants: Bloomingdale's (in what was originally Davison's and later Macy's), Macy's (in the former Rich's), and Neiman Marcus (Georgia's first and only location). It is also the site of an annual 4th of July fireworks display.
