Built in 1890 by Aldo Ambron, and the Atelier of Gilda Ambron was built in 1925 by G. A. Loria
Villa Ambron was once the home of Lawrence Durrell, the British author twice shortlisted for the Nobel prize for literature, whose experiences while living at the villa inspired his most famous work, The Alexandria Quartet.
The house also hosted the King of Italy Victor Emmanuel III when in exile in alexandria before moving to Villa Jela in Smouha
The studio of Gilda Ambron was in the garden of the villa as it was a meeting point of writers, poets and artists, and later became the atelier of the artist Effat Nagui and Her husband Saad el Khadem.
Unfortunately the Villa was Demolished September 2017.
