Go Hak-kyu's house was constructed in 1772 during the Joseon Dynasty. It is said that the intermediate founder of the family name, Go from Jeju, who was the 20th generation ancestor of the present house owner Go Jong-heon, erected the building in the late Goryeo Dynasty after planting two mulberry trees here.

The Servants' quarters were destroyed during the Korean War and a mill was wiped away by flood in the early 1980s. The remaining structures were completely remodeled and renovated between 1998 and 2000.
