Varanda (Armenian: Վարանդա) or Fizuli (Azerbaijani: Füzuli), also Karyagino (Russian: Карягино) and Sardar - is a city in South Caucasus. According to jurisdiction of the Republic of Mountainous Karabakh (Artsakh), controlling it, Varanda situated at northeast of Hadrut district of NKR. According to jurisdiction of Azerbaijan, clayming it, it is a district center of Fizuli District of Azerbaijan Republic. Before the 1993 this was Azerbaijani district center named Fizuli. This was the period of constant shelling of Armenian villages of Hadrut & Martuni districts from the heights near Fizuli. In 1993 Azerbaijani army ceded Fizuli turned to fire point, to the Army of Defence of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. The historical name Varanda was returned to the city that became part of "security belt" of the country. Today Varanda is a tiny populated Armenian town.
