World / USA / Virginia / Norfolk World / United States / Virginia
Opened in 2002, Armada Hoffler Tower is the anchor of the new Virginia Beach Town Center. The building is named for Armada Hoffler, the locally-based construction company responsible for spearheading construction on the Town Center project.
Although only 19 stories, the spire on top made Armada Hoffler Tower the tallest completed building in Hampton Roads, until the completion of the neighboring Westin Tower in late 2007.
The building is mainly private businesses with shops and restaurants on the ground floor, along with parking garages. All parking is free.
Armada Hoffler Tower was originally supposed to be one of two twin towers. Shortly after the World Trade Center terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, however, plans for the second tower were quietly shelved.
