A new summer cottage and bungalow development was undertaken in 1910. The location is on the east slope of South Mountain just to the north of the Otis Elevating Railway and close to the Otis Junction Station of the Catskill Mountain Railway. The property was developed by a newly organised club of New Yorkers known as the Ledgemoor Mountain Club. The club contemplated the erection by a few of its members of tasteful, comfortable yet inexpensive bungalows as well as a clubhouse for use of its members. The property secured by the club had approximately 240 acres and was admirably situated on a series of eight or more ledges from two hundred to six hundred feet in width and from fifty to one hundred above each other and up the mountain side more than half way. The view from the bungalows was magnificent giving glimpses in the distance of the Hudson River and showing the hills and mountains Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont as well as the nearer territory of New York. The first two ledges surveyed and laid out known as Big Ravine and Split Rock, were cut up into plots of approximately of one-half acre each. The club membership was carefully restricted, provision being made for the admission only of those acceptable to the board of governors of the club. The membership was made up exclusively of New Yorkers, including from Manhattan, Long Island and a selected few In Poughkeepsie, Kingston, Catskill, Hudson and Albany.
