Worm Drowning platforms

These platforms are built for the Old English sport of Worm Drowning. A thin line is attached to a pole, and a worm is impaled on a sharp hook at the other end of the line.

The unfortunate creature is then lowered into the river and left there until it drowns, a process that can take several hours.

Fish are a particular nuisance to Worm Drowning, and, every so often, one will eat the worm and become impaled upon the hook. To prevent the fish from interfering any further with his sport, the Worm Drowner will usually remove it and put it in a net.
